A best man speech is one of the major attractions of any wedding reception. Customarily, the best man is assigned the daunting task of preparing and delivering a speech at the wedding reception, just prior to the champagne toast. Since not everyone is comfortable speaking in front of large groups, this responsibility can be nerve-racking for some. Whatever you do, withhold the temptation to assist the best man in this privileged moment; he or she will be fine.
To start out your best man speech, raise your glass to all who are there. The champagne toast may be the perfect time to thank your groomsmen with the presentation of their groomsmen gifts, and sharing your gratitude in front of everyone will only make your groomsmen gift more special. If you do choose to honor your groomsmen with their gifts at toasting time, remember to toast your guests as well for supporting you and sharing in your special day.
Experience has shown that best man wedding speeches which are well-received are those which come straight from the heart. If you find you have nothing good to say about the groom, you shouldn’t be the best man and it would have been better to have graciously rejected the offer. If it’s too late and you need a fast speech by tomorrow, look into your heart and find something about the groom that can be construed as a good point. Dwell on it and you’ll be surprised at how much more likeable the groom can become. Think of examples that support this positive side of the groom and, before you know it, your speech has been written.
Knowing what is appropriate to say, regarding former girlfriends and past examples, really depends on the groom, his family, and his future in-laws. This is why it is important to know your audience. Be polite and circumspect. If you want to be funny, use ‘safe’ humor. Reserve off-color jokes for another time because you never know who you might offend. If all else fails, write a speech and read it to the groom’s mother. If she approves, you should be in good shape. Not a bad idea to make your wedding speech decent, huh ?
Some people really know how to ramble while others can talk for hours and it seems like minutes. If what you have prepared is truly meaningful and not redundant, your toast should include what you believe is necessary to give the groom a good rap. Unless the reception hall has a very limited timeframe reserved for your party, don’t worry about the time. And, if you can memorize some of it, your audience will be more likely to listen and enjoy your words. Again, the most important thing is that it comes from your heart. What good would a best man speech be if it wasn’t ?
By the way, traditionally groom speech is followed by the best man's wedding speech. So, as the best man you should keep that in mind and get yourself mentally prepared while the groom is delivering his speech. Generally there's not much scope for humors in a groom speech and people expect a good entertaining speech from the best man. So, better prepare for your best man speech if you wish to live up to everybody's expectations. For more

Making A Memorable Wedding Speech or Toast
by Scott Owen
So your buddy has asked you to be his best man. You are honored that your friend thinks enough of you to stand next to him on the most important day of his life. You are so excited about the wedding and the festivities that you almost forget a very important detail: the best man toast. Now you are sweating, filled with fear and anxious about a simple speech that should be easy to deliver. After all this is your best buddy, the guy you grew up with and shared many life experiences. How hard can it be to "say a few words" about him and his new wife?
Well, it's a lot harder than you think. First of all, this speech will be delivered in front of many people who know you well - old friends from school, family members and peers. Speaking in front of complete strangers is rather easy, but in front of people you know it can be downright terrifying.
Second, your speech will be videotaped and played over and over again. Your words will be a permanent part of your friend's wedding memories. One slip of the tongue and you can ruin an otherwise beautiful ceremony. Talk about pressure!
Third, your speech needs to convey your close relationship with the groom without revealing any "juicy" details of your past. It needs to be clean and concise and free of any questionable material.
Overcoming the first obstacle is not easy. If you are not comfortable speaking in front of crowds, you will need to practice over and over until you have memorized every line. You should be able to deliver your speech in your sleep. That way you will speak every line clearly and get the words right.
The second obstacle is completely within YOUR control! The most important thing is to stay sober until your speech is delivered. A few drinks will loosen you up and may cause you to say something that you think is funny at the time, but is bound to offend someone. Also be very aware of the feelings of others in the room and how they might react to your best man toast.
The third obstacle is also under your control. It is very simple - if you have the slightest inkling that your content may offend, it will offend. Leave it out and only stick to subject matter that you are certain will go over well. Jokes are funny, but need to be politically correct and sanitized where necessary!
Finally, it is up to you to deliver a memorable best man speech or toast. Now that you have removed the three obstacles, you should be able to give a flawless, entertaining and ultimately memorable best man speech.

Wedding Speeches: Tips And Advice
Statistics have shown that more people are afraid of public speaking then they are of more common fears, and it is indeed a very fearful act, speaking in public, anything you say cannot be taken back, and if you say something bad, you'll get foot "in" mouth disease.

Groom wedding speech
Groom wedding speech
Wedding speeches are important in a wedding ceremony. They usually serve not just as formalities within a ceremony, but to add insight to the bride and groom, and the union that has been established. Here is a closer look into the nitty-gritty of wedding speeches.
Wedding speeches are usually given by the father of the bride, the groom, the best man, and the maid/matron of honor. A wedding speech should be about both families and impersonal, although exceptions are given to the best man and maid/matron of honor, who can inject more personal comments in their speeches.
The bride’s father usually gives the first wedding speech. Traditionally, if there is no master of ceremonies or toastmaster, he is to be introduced by the best man. In his speech, the father of the bride welcomes the guests to the wedding and thanks them for their attendance in the marriage of his daughter to her new husband. He could proceed by taking about his daughter, her character, childhood, accomplishments and skills. He then talks about his new son in law. His little talk about his son in law should be more impersonal in approach, after which he proposes a toast to the bride and groom.
The groom, in response to his father in law’s speech will then deliver a speech.
After the groom’s speech and toast (which is usually directed to his new family), the maid/matron of honor will follow, who then proposes a toast for the bride, to be concluded with the best man’s wedding speech. The best man will be responsible as well for any messages from the uninvited, or those unable to attend, and finishes with a toast to the parents of the bride and groom.
When planning the wedding reception speech, don’t feel like you have to fully conform to tradition. Sure, the best man speech is usually the funny one, the Father of the Bride’s is normally the sincere one and the Groom’s speech is usually the short, forgettable one, but they needn’t be just that.
If you are the Groom and want to say something a little more memorable, or the Best Man who wants to make it more heartfelt, or the Father of the Bride who will cry if he keeps it all lovey-dovey then do what feels right and comfortable. Don’t lose sight of the speech’s tradition, but most importantly just be yourself.
First, before you ever begin your wedding speech, have a chat with close friends and relatives of the bride and groom beforehand and ask them to lead the applause and laughter where appropriate.
Also, have a snack about quarter of an hour before your wedding speech. Professionals advise a banana but if you can’t get hold of one of them just make sure you down anything that will stop your tummy from rumbling yet won’t repeat on you!
When you think of the wedding speech, picture it with a smile on your face. It is always helpful to go into a speech with confidence. However, before you speak, forget completely about what lies ahead and remember to enjoy yourself, take everything in and focus only on the moment.
